Geotextile is a new type of construction material specified by the state for use in civil engineering projects. It is made of filaments or staple fibers that are arranged into a mesh through different equipment and processes, and then interwoven and entangled together through processes such as needle punching to standardize the fabric specifications, making the fabric soft, full, thick, and stiff, achieving different thicknesses to meet usage requirements. Depending on the length of the fibers used, it is divided into filament nonwoven geotextile or staple fiber nonwoven geotextile, with the tensile strength of filaments being higher than that of staple fibers. Due to the softness of the fibers, they have a certain tear resistance and excellent main functions are: filtration, water filtration, and reinforcement. The specifications range from 100 grams per square meter to 800 grams per square meter. The main material is polyester fiber, which has superior water permeability, filtration, durability, deformation adaptability, and excellent plane drainage capacity.
Features and functions
1. It does not contain chemical additives and has not undergone heat treatment, making it an environmentally friendly building material
2. It has good mechanical properties, good water permeability, and is resistant to corrosion and anti-aging
3. It has strong resistance to burial and corrosion, with a fluffy structure that provides excellent drainage performance
4. It possesses excellent friction coefficient and tensile strength, exhibiting geotechnical reinforcement properties
5. It possesses functions such as isolation, filtration, drainage, protection, stabilization, and reinforcement
6. It can adapt to uneven substrates, resist damage from external forces during construction, and exhibit low creep
7. Good overall continuity, light weight, and convenient construction
8. As a permeable material, it possesses excellent filtration and isolation capabilities, and strong puncture resistance, thus offering excellent protective properties
◆ Leveraging the excellent air permeability and water permeability of geotextiles, water can flow through, effectively intercepting sand and soil loss;
◆ Geotextiles have good water conductivity, which allows them to form drainage channels inside the soil, discharging excess liquid and gas from the soil structure;
◆ Utilize geotextiles to enhance the tensile strength and deformation resistance of the soil, thereby improving the stability of building structures and enhancing soil quality;
◆ Effectively diffuse, transfer, or decompose concentrated stress to prevent soil damage caused by external forces;
◆ Prevent mixing between sand and gravel, soil, and concrete in the upper and lower layers;
◆ The mesh is not prone to clogging because the mesh structure formed by non-shaped fibrous tissue exhibits strain and mobility
◆ High water permeability: It maintains good water permeability even under the pressure of soil and water;
◆ Corrosion resistance: Made from chemical fibers such as polypropylene or polyester, it is resistant to acids and alkalis, non-corrosive, insect-proof, and antioxidant;
◆ Advantages: Light weight, simple construction, convenient use, shortened construction period, improved economic benefits, extended project service life
Application Areas
(1) Used as reinforcement in the backfill of retaining walls, or for anchoring the panels of retaining walls. Construct wrapped retaining walls or abutments.
(2) Reinforce flexible pavement, repair cracks on the road, and prevent reflective cracks on the pavement.
(3) Enhance the stability of gravel slopes and reinforced soil to prevent soil erosion and frost damage to the soil mass during low temperatures
(4) The isolation layer between the road ballast and the subgrade, or the isolation layer between the subgrade and the soft foundation.
(5) Isolation layer between artificial fill, rockfill, or material yard and the foundation, as well as isolation between different permafrost layers. It serves the functions of filtration and reinforcement.
(6) Filter layer on the upstream dam face of the initial stage of ash storage dam or tailings dam, and filter layer in the drainage system of the backfill soil of the retaining wall.
(7) Filter layer around the concealed drainage pipe or around the gravel-filled concealed drainage ditch.
(8) Filter layers for wells, relief wells, or inclined pressure pipes in hydraulic engineering projects.
(9) Isolation layer of geotextile between roads, airports, railway ballast, artificial rockfill, etc. and the foundation
(10) Vertical or horizontal drainage within the earth dam, embedded in the soil to dissipate pore water pressure.
(11) Drainage behind the impermeable geomembrane or beneath the lower part of the concrete protective surface in earth dams or earth embankments.
(12) Eliminate water seepage around the tunnel, reduce the external water pressure on the lining, and address water seepage around various structures
(13) Drainage of the foundation of the sports field with artificially filled soil.
(14) Used to strengthen soft and weak foundations in projects such as highways (including temporary roads), railways, embankments, earth-rock dams, airports, and sports fields
